About Me

Alex Florin – Guitarist, Composer, and Storyteller

I’m a guitarist and composer whose music takes listeners on immersive journeys through sound. With years of experience in the German jazz and contemporary music scene, I’m known for my composition skills and my distinctive approach to both guitar playing and storytelling.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredible musicians over the years, including Fiete Felsch, Gabriel Coburger, Larry Coryell, and Jeanfrançois Prins. I’m also a member of several exciting bands, such as the Calvin Lennig Umweg Band, Markus Strothmann’s Emerald, The Birdland BigBang, and Kerosin Kerosin—a collaboration with visual artist Anne-Marie Kersten, where I improvise on guitar while she uses brushes to create live art in real time. Our performances merge sound and color, creating an entirely spontaneous and immersive experience.

Additionally, I lead my own project, Pale Blue Dot, a trio with Moritz Hamm on drums and Calvin Lennig on bass. We aim to craft an intimate yet expansive sound, where improvisation meets thoughtful composition, blending ambient jazz, folk influences, and original instrumental music into a unique musical journey.

My compositions are centered around immersive stories and atmospheric soundscapes, drawing from jazz, folk, and ambient music to create a distinctive listening experience. My music seeks to guide you on a journey, offering both depth and space for reflection.

In 2024, I released my solo album, Sourdough Dog/Rex, a concept album that tells the story of a Sourdough T-Rex-Dog hybrid who, feeling disconnected from his home planet, embarks on a cosmic journey to find a new place to belong. While the concept may sound abstract, it’s a story many can relate to—the feeling of being lost and yearning for something new, a theme that resonates with anyone who has ever searched for a sense of home.

I studied jazz guitar in the Netherlands, learning under renowned teachers like Reinier Baas and having lessons with talented musicians such as Lage Lund, Nir Felder, Gilad Hekselman, Ben van Gelder, and Maarten Hoogenhuis. This education, combined with years of experience, has shaped my distinctive voice as both a guitarist and composer.

Whether performing with Pale Blue Dot, Kerosin Kerosin, or collaborating with some of the most respected names in jazz and contemporary music, my goal remains the same: to connect with audiences through the power of music and storytelling.
